This is not quite on topic but just what I have noticed dealing with a few hundred photographers every summer. I'm guilty of this sometimes too but have figured out that if you know your subject and are quick on the shutter, a lot of the spray and pray isn't necessary. It just means more time and effort culling later on. With AfterShot Pro as your batch-photo processor and image manager, you can quickly process your RAW photos. AfterShot Pro integrates well with Photoshop. I see many of my quests still holding down the shutter button after the whale has disappeared. Edit and perfect one or thousands of photos with powerful batch processing controls and presets that let you quickly bring out the best in every image. ViewNX - Allows rating but runs like a dog. Microsoft Picture Viewer - Fast but no rating. I have tried so far: Picasa - Fast but no rating. RawDigger is a microscope of sorts that lets you drill down into raw data. My goal is to be able to preview the images off the memory card on my laptop and tag the keepers so when I import into Lightroom it brings the info with them. as recorded by digital photo- and certain video cameras. RawDigger is a tool allowing to view, study, and analyze pure raw data. A four or five shot series of a whale fluking up (not sure this is a real word) and diving deep is plenty to still choose the zinger from, but it's so easy to shoot ten or twelve or more shots that most people way over do it. View a precise real RAW histogram as you have never seen it before. I see this 'over shooting' on my whale watching tours all the time. Compare price, features, and reviews of the software side-by-side to make the best choice for your business. You can rate photos in this app and your DAM should pick. I have tons of RAW photos and JPEGs that I have done an abysmal job of managing. My photos are stored on a giant raid10 NAS with cloud backup. Its the best tool for evaluating image quality as it is one of the few tools that allow you to view the raw histogram. not selling photos just personal consumption, i.e. Cant comment on the DAM but I would cull photos using FastRawViewer. After several weeks of mind numbing work (working off & on), they were down to under 500. It would be great if I dont have to use yet another tool like Photo Mechanic for that purpose. I came home from Kenya with almost 8000 shots.
